'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear after the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range strike from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the deflection before racing off toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

This sealed an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the second half. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win earned a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right wing-back after Orient changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who complimented the way Orient played positively.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to manage and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're doing well and then without warning they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a popular figure across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a temporary move at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "This represented a long trip and it was cold out there," he recalls, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a minibus driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm planning to be the following person to drive independently and on the road. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
